BE INSPIRED!Come along for the chance to sing a great variety of fantastic repertoire. Last term saw a fantastic performance of one of the greatest of all choral classics,Verdi's Requiem, but now we're on to Will Todd's more recent and jazzy Mass in Blue. We will be performing this work on Sunday the 24th of June in the Butterworth Hall. Please click here to see Youtube videos of what the pieces sound like and for uploaded learning tools. COME AND SING!It doesn't matter if you have experience of singing in a choir, or if you have only ever sung in the privacy of your shower! We have members of all abilities so even if you are completely new to singing you will soon pick it up from listening to more experienced members. We rehearse on Thursday evenings in the Arts Centre Conference Room, so please do come and join us. This term's rehearsals will all be from 7 - 9.30pm except for the 17th May, when rehearsal will run from 7.30 - 10pm. A full list of rehearsal times can be found on the Calendar page or alternatively you can download a file of the schedule here. JOIN US!To join Chorus you will need to come along during one of our of registration sessions and collect a copy of the music for the term. Registration will be on Thursday 26th April and Thursday 4th May from 6-7pm in the reception area of the Rootes Social building. If you haven't registered with us before, the termly fee is £28 non-concession and £16 concession (students, over-sixty or staff), and you will need £15 either cash or cheque as a score deposit. We will return this deposit to you when you leave Chorus - providing you always hand your music back at the end of term. Then come to the Conference Room in the Arts Centre and find a seat - the exec will help you if you don't know what part to sing. A little bit about usWe are the largest Music Centre Society at the University and regularly put on performances with 150 - 250 singers. We perform various types of choral music from Brahms to Beethoven, Haydn to Handel and Mozart to Mahler. For a list of everything we've performed since 1983 view our previous concerts page! Our membership comprises of students and staff from the university, as well as a large number of people from the wider community who come and sing with us because they enjoy it so much. We perform three concerts a year and anyone can join at the start of each term. We also go on tour once every two years - most recently we went to Milan during March 2012. For more information about the Chorus see our 'Info' section. To our membersWe hope that this site provides a useful resource for you and that you are able to find all the information you need about Chorus. If you have any ideas for items to go on the site, please contact us and we will see what we can do. ![]() ![]() |
