Who are we?
The Chorus is the largest Music Centre society at the
University of Warwick and comprises of both student and non-student members. Our diverse
mix of voices means that the Chorus is able to create a very unique sound that is very
exciting to be a part of. Not only that but with so many like-minded people all around,
you can't help but make new friends of all ages. This is especially reassuring for
students faced with lots of societies to join and so many people when arriving at
university - by joining Chorus you have the opportunity to do something that you enjoy, with people who share your interests.
What do we do?
We sing a variety of classical music, and our repertoire
ranges from the popular (ones where you spend a week wondering which advert the tune's
from) to lesser known but challenging pieces. Our most recent achievements include performances of Mendelssohn's 'Elijah' and Verdi's 'Requiem'.
Where do we do it?
We are based at Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry. We
rehearse in the Conference Room (ACCR) and concerts are performed in Butterworth Hall and
occasionally at venues further a field, for example at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
For those who enjoy travelling, we tour once every two years to places such as Budapest, Prague, Vienna, Lyon, Krakow and Italy. Our most recent tour was to Milan in March 2012, where we performed Mozart's 'Requiem' in some spectacular venues.
Who can join?
The Chorus is non-auditioned so
people of all abilities are welcome. The rehearsal schedule is not too demanding - only
once a week - so you'll have plenty of spare time to join other societies, go to the union
and maybe even do some work! As well as all this, we have occasional social events which we
hope appeal to most people, such as drinks in the bar after rehearsals, meals out or bowling. Chorus is a very active and rewarding society, a
must for any lover of music!
